Mobile phones have rechargeable batteries in them. Positively charged lithium ions travel from the anode through the electrolyte to the cathode, this drives electrons through a circuit which creates electricity so you can use your phone. When youโ€™re charging your phone, the lithium ions travel from the cathode to the anode. Let me know if there’s anything you want me to explain in more detail!

If you refer to how batteries power our phones, Sophia gave a very good explanation :). Let us know if you referred to something else about phones.

Sophia’s answer about the battery is exactly right. There are also lots of sensors and computers that are running in the phone to calculate things like which way up the phone is, whether the phone has moved in a way that replicates a step for your fitness tracking apps and so on.

Sophia’s explanation is exactly how I’d have phrased it! There are all sorts of intricate electronics within the device that work together to make it a mobile phone ๐Ÿ™‚
