I’ve just finished a chemistry degree at the University of Edinburgh. Before that I lived in Colchester my whole life so I loved the experience of moving to Scotland! Now I live in Oxford, I just moved there for my science communication job. I live with 3 friends and we do lots of fun things together!
I really struggled to choose between a career as an artist and a career as a chemist. After two years of university, I realised that I could go for a career in science communication. I get to use my creative side to make social media posts and I also get to learn lots of cool science!

I am a science communicator. That means I explain battery science so it is easy to understand.
I make a lot of posts on social media. This lets me be really creative because I make pictures to go in the social media posts.
Every day is different at work and there are lots of things to do! I update the website with all the new things that are going on in our community. I run events, for example finding speakers to talk to the Faraday Institution community about their research.
The thing I love the most about my job is that I get to learn about lots of cool battery science!

My Typical Day:
I work from home 2 days a week and I work in the office 3 days a week.
I start work at 9am. The first thing I do is check my work social media. Every day is different at work and there are lots of things to do! At lunchtime I go for a walk with my friends. I leave at 5:30pm. Sometimes I go to the gym after work and sometimes I go home and relax with my housemates.

If I’m working in the office, I take the bus to work. I start work at 9am. The first thing I do is check my work social media. I have a look at what other organisations are up to and if they post about some interesting science I will make a post about it for our social media!
Every day is different at work and there are lots of things to do! I have to update the website with all the new things that are going on in battery science. Sometimes I speak at online events and tell people about batteries. Every Tuesday I have a meeting with my team – we all work in science communication and education.
At lunchtime I go for a walk with my friends. I leave work at 5:30pm. Sometimes I go to the gym afterwards and sometimes I go home and relax with my housemates. We like to watch films, eat dinner together, and go and explore Oxford.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I would start an Instagram and a TikTok and post about science!
I’ll do fun science experiments, collaborations with scientists, and go and visit cool places. I’ll also listen to your suggestions of what I should post about!

Work History:
My first work experience was in a nursery school! Most of my jobs have been in education. I taught art at a Summer camp in America, I taught English as a foreign language in Edinburgh, and I ran school trips around Scotland. I had a job demonstrating a chemistry card game at science conferences and in primary schools – this was so much fun!
Before I got my current job at the Faraday Institution, I was an intern there in 2020. I made educational resources to explain how you make batteries. I worked really hard during my internship and so I was asked to apply for the job I have now. The Faraday Institution hired me because I am really passionate about science, have experience in education, and am creative!
